An archaic form of Swedish divination, translated as “year walk”, a yearly tradition consisting of an individual following certain instructions and challenges often involving supernatural beings.
To undertake Årsgång, one must walk into the forest before the first light on Christmas Eve, if completed correctly, the ritual would give the participant a glimpse of the year to come.
Årsgång is one of many ways we used to find answers in nature, when there was still so much we didn’t understand. Today, perhaps the journey has become too long, too slow. The answers are always right there in our hand, wirelessly connected to everyone and everything twenty-four seven, but never have we been so disconnected.
After a vast research into scandinavian folklore and myth, I started questioning where this human curiosity went?
When did we stop looking for answers in nature?
Årsgång consists of a 5min speculative video, investigating mental health in a digital world.
The video is filmed in a digital terrain developed through the game engine Unity, partly made from downloaded assets and self-made 3D-scans from around Eindhoven.
Final outcome was presented in DeFabriek in Eindhoven, next to a process video and long reciept of learning outcomes, emphasizing the project as an act of reclaiming abilities during a time of depression.
